From Cape Town Airport to your hotel or to your apartment

Cape Town International Airport is approximately 20km from Cape Town’s city centre. There are several ways to get to and from the airport including hiring a car or shuttle, calling an Uber, or taking a metered taxi. Your choice of transport will depend on the distance you have to travel, as well as the direction.

 

Metered taxis are widely available at the airport, and a trip to the city centre will cost between R300 and R400 (14-20 EURO / 16-21 USD), although fees may vary. Some have flat rates, while others charge by the kilometre, but either way you should agree up front what the fee might be.

 

Good to remember! Many hotels also offer pick-up services.

Travelling from Europe to Cape Town

Direct flights from major European cities to Cape Town International Airport (CPT) are readily available, making it a straightforward journey.

 

Here is an overview of typical flight information:

  1. Direct Flights: Many European airlines offer direct flights to Cape Town from major European cities including London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, and Zurich. The duration of direct flights may vary between 10 and 12 hours.

    Organiser comment: Booking flights from the above mentioned cities is highly recommended. Flights leaving in the early evening  will get you to Cape Town mid-morning the following day, leaving the day to settle in and explore.

     

  2. Transit Visas: If you have a layover in a country that requires transit visas for your nationality, make sure to check the transit visa requirements beforehand. Some countries may allow transit without a visa for a specific period, while others may require a transit visa even for short layovers.
     

  3. Airline Options: Different airlines operate flights to Cape Town, and the availability of direct flights and ticket prices can vary depending on the airline and the time of year. Consider checking with multiple airlines to find the best options for your travel dates and budget.
     

  4. Airport Transfers: Once you arrive in Cape Town, there are various transportation options available to get to your accommodation, including taxis, shuttle services, and rental cars.
